The Dam Tour

On my birthday, we got up and had breakfast at McDonald's in the Stratosphere tower, went to the top of the tower and looked around, then checked out and headed for the Hoover Dam.

This is the new highway bridge that will bypass the Dam. It'll save lots and lots of driving time. Like, at least a half hour. But makes me a little nostalgic; bypassing the Hoover Dam should be outlawed!...oh wait, maybe I've just seen Cars way too many times.

I was really looking forward to going on the Dam tour. I really wanted to do something cool for my birthday. (Is it just me, or do I ususally end up celebrating my birthday for like a week?) And I actually like museum tours. But, as it so happens, the Dam tour is $30 per person! For the love! We contented ourselves with walking around, taking pictures and browsing in the gift shop.

I must say that the Hoover Dam truly lends itself well to photograhy. The buildings are starkly contrasted against the rugged, rocky terrain. It's a beautiful place and I really love it. And I was pretty happy with the shots I got there.

Clark just loves family photos. He just loves hamming it up for the camera, can't you tell? Seriously, though, do other kids squirm like this every time someone turns the camera on them?

When you are three, the fire hydrants are way more exciting than the Hoover Dam. Where we live, the fire hydrants are yellow, so Clark was especially happy to see this red one.

I bet you are wondering if anything could possibly be more exciting than a red fire hydrant. Well guess, what? There is! We lucked out and a front-end loader drove by and beeped at us. Oh, the joy that was had!

My tough guys...in the shade. Boy, the sun was sure beating down on us. And it was gorgeous!

Home again home again, jiggety jig. I love going home. We had a wonderful trip, and I was especially grateful to have been able to spend more time with my parents and with Jake and Toby and the kids, but it is always so nice to go home. In the words of Jose's sister, Sandra, "No hay nada como su propio cama, y su propio bano." There's just nothin' like your own bed and your own bathroom. Or maybe Sandra and I are just too OCD for our own good.
