Painting Before Breakfast

Clark woke up one morning last month and said, "Mom can we paint?" And I looked at his sweet face and said, "Sure!" Even though I thought we were both crazy. This is Jeremy the airplane, incidentally, who is making the rounds as a space shuttle at our house ever since we let Clark watch the Discovery Channel "When We Left Earth" series.

So we painted. Both of us. And Clark's was a masterpiece, as usual. And mine was not. But I'm trying. Watercolor just frustrates the livin' OCD right outta me. Now quilting...that's a medium I can get behind. Measure twice, cut once. That's my kinda language. None of this let the watercolor paint itself garbage. There is just no controlling it at all.

Then we had breakfast. And I don't really know what it was, but it was just the greatest morning. Maybe I just need to let go more often. Surrender the control of the day. Paint first. Eat later.

I had to reread your last paragraph a couple times before I realized that you weren't talking about your breakfast, you were talking about your philosophy for the day. I was going to make a snotty comment like "You don't know what it was? It looks like waffles and eggs to me."
I'm glad you had a nice day.
