New Year's Day

New Year's Day, I rolled out of bed about 10am and went to check my email, and while I was on the computer, I checked my google reader to see if any of my blogging buddies had posted anything new. Well, Molly had written about her family's trip to Kartchner Caverns over the holiday and I knew right away that Jose would LOVE to go there.

We called and made a same day reservation, and jumped in the car to drive the two and a half hours to get there. And let me tell you. It was AMAZING!!! First of all, we got to take a "train" up the hill to go into the caves, and so right away it was a big hit with Clark. And once we were inside. WOW. It was awe-inspiring.

This picture is of a formation that is 90 feet wide and 50 feet tall. And it was formed drip by drip over centuries! The tour was great and there is a visitor's center with displays and a film. I will say that the tour is not exactly toddler friendly. It is very important that little hands DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, and that's tough for little hands. But we came out okay and Clark did great and was even complimented on his behavior by the tour guides.

On our way home, we called the Stimpsons to ask them where to eat in Tucson. They recommended La Parilla Suiza, having lived in Tucson for several years. Oh man. It was incredible! We walked in just in time for live mariachi! Jose was so excited. And Clark couldn't take his eyes off of the performers! So cute. And since the food was DIVINE, and our day had been so much fun, it ended up being the perfect start to the New Year!

Note: I did not take the cavern photos. No cameras allowed. They're from the website.
