Memorial Day

We started out our Memorial Day by having breakfast at Einstein's Bagels, one of my many favorite places on earth. I exercised huge self-control by not eating the new cream cheese bagel bites. Or the chocolate chip coffee cakes. Or the struesel muffins.

Clark quite enjoyed his meal. He ate mostly fruit and a bagel. And freshly squeezed orange juice, which is divine. After breakfast we headed for Tucson, where Jose checked out a truck for the business, and then we went to Old Tucson for a couple of hours.

Our first stop in Old Tucson was the Merry Go Round. Clark was paralyzed with fear on the old rickety carousel. I couldn't really blame him.

So he sat with me and enjoyed the spinning from the safety of one of the little booths on the ride.

He didn't want to go on the old fashioned cars either. So Jose did a lot of lone riding on this trip! After Jose finished his motor tour, we went on the train. We ended up riding the train on our way out also because it was Clark's very favorite thing on earth. But I didn't take pictures the first time around.

This was an experiment in torture. The guy doing the "Miracle Elixer" show asked me to participate up on stage. He told me to spell "Silk," which I did. Then he told me to spell it again really fast, and I totally biffed it. He said, "Wow. I'm going to stop right there because the punch line of that joke isn't nearly as funny as what you just did!" Nothing like public humiliation.

We went to a family friendly version of a can-can show. It was cute. The girl in the middle came over and put her arm around Jose for about 20 seconds, and he wanted to die right there on the spot, he was so embarrassed. At least he wasn't one of the other guys in the audience that was chosen to go backstage and dress up like one of the girls! Torture I tell you!

The gunfight was pretty tame. I think the one they do earlier in the afternoon is supposed to be more intense. But Clark and I still jumped at the gunshots!

Here's Clark's "riding the train" face. Oh the happy joy! His dad is pretty cute too. The train ride is pretty fun. The engineer takes the train all around Old Tucson and they go over a little bridge and under a tinroof tunnel.

We had such a great day! It was so nice to be together as a family and just spend time together. Days like this remind me that life is good.
